CAREER:

Matt has been actively practicing law in New Hampshire since 1983.

Matt has received the highest rating, AV Preeminent, from Martindale-Hubbell.

Matt has concentrated his practice in the areas of personal injury, workers compensation, civil litigation and criminal defense. Matt regularly appears in New Hampshire superior and district courts and the Federal district court of New Hampshire. He also handles cases, with the aid of local counsel, where clients are injured outside of New Hampshire, such as Massachusetts, Maine, Vermont, Rhode Island, Florida, Maryland, Arkansas and even Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.

Matt’s extensive trial experience sets him apart. He is known as an attorney who is ready, willing and able to take a case to trial if a fair settlement cannot be reached. Matt has tried over 150 jury trial cases in State and Federal courts, as well as hundreds of non-jury cases in the State, Superior and District courts. The result is that most often, Matt is able to resolve the personal injury, civil or criminal case favorably, without the need of trial. However, when trial becomes necessary, Matt will prepare the case well and effectively present it to a judge or jury.

Matt is an attorney that will take on the difficult case. It is not uncommon for Matt to take on a client whose case has been rejected by other attorneys, and achieve an excellent result. Often times, other attorneys refer these cases directly to him, respecting his willingness and ability to take them on.

Matt also has extensive appellate experience, having briefed and argued 27 cases before the New Hampshire Supreme Court, and 5 cases before the Federal First Circuit Court of Appeals.

Matt is a trusted community leader. He served 5 terms as mayor of the City of Laconia and 4 terms as a City Councilor. Matt has  served as Chairman of the Laconia Airport Authority and the Laconia/Gilford Economic Development Authority. He has also served on the boards of several non-profit organizations.

In 2007, the New Hampshire Bar Association awarded Matt the Vicki M. Bunnel Award for outstanding community service.

Matt and his dedicated staff provide excellent service to his clients. Clients are treated fairly and with respect, and are always kept up to date about the status of their case. The bulk of Matt’s new cases are referrals from satisfied clients.
